The Southern Miss Golden Eagles at South Carolina Gamecocks: Thursday, September 2, 7:30 p.m. ESPN

College Football Betting Line:
Southern Miss: +14
South Carolina: -14

With several top stars coming back, South Carolina has big expectations entering 2010, after ending last season 7-6 SU and 7-6 ATS (Including just 1-4 SU in their last 5 games).

Everything revolves around junior quarterback Stephen Garcia, an experienced but enigmatic signal-caller. Last year, Garcia threw for 2,862 yards and 17 touchdowns, but also 10 interceptions. Superstar wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey returns after he caught a team-high 46 balls last year, and the defense will be talented, with several players returning along the line.

College football betting fans better not sleep on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles though, who finished 7-6 SU last year, but were just 1-5 ATS on the road. Southern Miss brings back experience in quarterback Austin Davis, who missed most of last year with a foot injury, as well as nine starters on defense.

And it’s because of that defense, that the Golden Eagles should be your play. We’re not saying they’re better than South Carolina, just that they’ll be able to keep things within two touchdowns.

Also, remember, South Carolina opened last year with a home date against North Carolina State, and didn’t exactly set the world on fire. They won an ugly 10-3 game.

The Pittsburgh Panthers at Utah Utes: Thursday, September 2, 8:30 p.m. Versus

College Football Betting Line:
Pittsburgh: +3 ½
Utah: -3 ½

College football betting fans are in for a treat on opening night, as this cross-sectional matchup will pair two top 25 teams.

Pitt comes in with the name recognition: They return All-American candidates Dion Lewis at running back (1,799 yards, 17 touchdowns) and defensive end Greg Romeus.

As for Utah, they aren’t as well known in college football circles, but finished 10-3 last year. Keep in mind however, that only four of those 13 games played OVER. Quarterback Jordan Wynn will run this offense, after being named starter late last year.

While most believe that Pittsburgh is the play here, take Utah. Pitt will be breaking in a brand new quarterback- sophomore Tino Sunseri- and doing it in a hostile environment in Salt Lake City, at altitude in the mountains. Not to mention they’ll be going against last year’s 23rd ranked defense (20.2 points per game).

The only play that college football online betting fans should make in this one is the Utes to cover.

the USC Trojans at Hawaii Warriors: Thursday, September 2, 11:00 p.m. ESPN

It’s been a tough off-season for Trojans, and only got tougher this week, when dynamic running back Dillon Baxter was suspended for this one.

So does that mean the Warriors should be your pick? Don’t be crazy.

Remember, for all the talk about the demise of USC last year, they still finished with nine wins, and return most of their offense from that squad. Even without Baxter, they should be able to score at will against this Hawaii defense, one which ranked 107th in rushing defense last year.
